Hey, Talia.
Please don’t be discouraged. As a fellow blogger, I’ve learned (and heard from others) that people are lazy when it comes to adding comments. You shouldn’t take it personally if people don’t comment.
(Btw, I happened upon your blog by hitting the “next blog” arrow in WordPress.)
As far as your name goes, I think you should include your family’s name – it honours your own family and heritage, which you’re obviously proud of. And, as Farlie correctly mentioned, most times when you give your name, you don’t to use your full name, do you? I mean, I have a middle name, too, but I never give it unless it’s for official documentation.
Our 2-yr+ old son knows his full name, which happens to have his mother’s maiden name as his middle name (the same as me, with my mother’s maiden name as my middle name).
When he chooses to do so, I want him to speak his full name and include all of it’s history (mother’s and father’s side) when he stands up and states it to the world.
So I say take your husband’s family name along with yours and make it your own!
Those are my thoughts on a Friday night with a Maple Leafs’ loss behind us and a few brewskies into us.

I like being Fairlie Karen Richards McIlwraith. For most documents you only need your first name and last name. People only need to know that Richards is part of my name if I choose to tell them. It gives me a good feeling, however, to have Richards in my name.

I think that if you added it as a middle name then it’s gonna be a bit weird, cos as you said, it will sound like Rodgers-Carbis.
I like how your mum passed on Gibson to Hayden, that’s pretty cool.
Me personally, I don’t think giving up my last name is going to be an issue. Because being a Dyer isn’t about the last name, it’s about who I am and who I have become. I don’t need the name to link me with my family.
But everybody is different.

a topic i hold dear to my heart!! as i have 2 sisters we have discussed this before! i personally wouldnt be taking his name at all ( but thats me !!!!)
but i think adding it as a second name is a good idea because u keep rogers thats who u are and then luke adds to that! I understand what u mean about the double barrelled names there are so many young teachers with those names and it takes the kids ages to say their names so they end up just calling them something else!ive got another reason but i cant really post it@! look forward to seeing u on your big day Marcus feels old!
